This series of photos were taken during a hike to the top of Mt. Baldy, one of the highest mountains in the Southern California area. On the way up there's a ski lift that runs through the trees. Being that it was summer, the ski lift was not being used. That day it was in fact running, which made the entire sight that much more surreal. As I walked up near the base of these things, I noticed how unusual they looked, how almost monolithic and cold they seemed. I decided to start shooting them throughout the day. I decided to process the photos in a style that would accentuate the details and the starkness of the landscape, and set off the architecture of the ski lift. The color tone hints at the coming snow, many months away.
